WWE NXT 5/11/2021

WWE NXT 5/11/2021

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/05/wwe-nxt-542021.html

Austin Theory with Johnny Gargano vs Karrion Kross with Scarlett

Gargano had to push Austin to get in the ring here. He hit a big dropkick that Kross brushed off, then he got face kicked. Theory tried to lariat him but Kross took it and then lariated him down instead. Kross put Austin's head over his back then forearmed him in the chest. Kross stepped on him and laughed in Johnny's face, then he hit a suplex.

Johnny got on the apron to distract the ref and Theory eye raked Kross. Theory then threw him into the barricade and ddt'd him on the floor. Theory then pounded on him and rolled through the ropes into a nice dropkick on him. Theory then fallaway slammed him but went to go talk to Johnny.

Kross then came back with a saito suplex. He forearmed him in the back of the head and choked him for the win. The idea was solid here but Theory ended up muscling Kross around more than he should have and made Kross look weak, which should have not have happened.

Kross then stared down Johnny but Finn Balor popped up behind him. They then stared down and Finn said he wants a rematch and is not waiting in line. Kross agreed, saying he wants it just as bad as Finn does.

We saw Kushida arriving and Raquel Gonzalez arriving.

Leon Ruff went to Regal in the back and said he wants to compete tonight. Regal said no as he took a beating last week and Ruff said the medical team cleared him. They yelled at each other and Ruff threw stuff off of Regal's desk. Regal then said he isn't competing and kicked him out of the office. I wasn't a fan of this one as it was too much of a principal yelling at a student situation.

MSK vs Breezango

Lee shoulders down Breeze early and forward flips over him as he is bent over. They each try to superkick each other at the same time. Carter flipped out of a Breeze wristlock.

Fandango danced over Nash after an armdrag then Nash dropkciked him and danced too. Both Breeze and Nash dropped down and Fandango jumped over them and ended up running into his partner. The ref and Nash then did this spot and Breeze ran into a Nash dropkick.

We went to break and returned with Lee getting a Japanese armdrag into the buckles. Fandango then hit a falcon arrow on him for 2. MSK hit kick combos on Breeze that ended up with a Nash double stomp on his back. Nash then was pushed by Lee for an SSP. They punched each other on their knees.

Fadango was up top and Nash ran the buckles to knee him then moonsaults on both BZ members outside. Lee pushed Nash into a dropkick on Fandango in a cool spot. Nash held up Breeze then Lee jumping blockbustered him for the win. I didn't like the ref spot and sadly, that was the biggest pop of the match. You know the MSK deal by now. They have a bunch of cool spots and do those spots in almost every match. This was one of their more tamer matches but Breezango was fine against them but the ref spot ruined the match for me.

MSK and Breezango shook hands after. MSK then called out LdF into a camera in the corner and said they aren't hard to find.

Johnny Gargano went up to Regal in the back. He wasn't happy about having to fight Bronson Reed next week. He accused Regal of hating him and Regal said he is the champ and the marketing department even made Johnny his own headband. Johnny went to touch the brass knuckles on his desk and Regal said "don't you dare touch those". Johnny then took his pencil and broke it. Way too much Principal Regal stuff here.

They announce NXT In Your House for June 13th with a Todd Pettengill as the host.

Ever-Rise then appears behind the announcers with an Ever-Rise Live sign.

Pete Dunne does a promo in the ring. He says he doesn't blame Kross for ducking him because he is the baddest man in NXT. He dared anyone who thought otherwise in the back to come out. Leon Ruff then decked Dunne from behind and dropkicked him to the outside. This was a neat way to get out of Ruff not being able to wrestle.

Leon Ruff vs Pete Dunne

Ruff charged at him then got grounded and pounded. Ruff did his rope hopping evade and Dunne pulled on his fingers. Dunne held his hand and Ruff ran up the buckles then springboard hurricanrana'd him. Dunne then ran him over and stomped him.

Dunne slapped him and Ruff hit multiple slaps back.  Ruff then missile dropkicked him and bounced back from the ropes with a lariat. Ruff came off the top and was hit with a forearm then Dunne triangle'd him with elbows and won it via ref stoppage. This was short and fun with Ruff working the underdog gimmick as usual.

Dunne then pulled his fingers apart after.

Legado del Fantasma did a promo. They said Escobar would win the title tonight. Escobar said Kushida is only champ because he let him be and said this stops tonight.

They said Franky Monet would make her world premier in 2 weeks, seemingly her in-ring debut. They also announced Karrion Kross vs Finn Balor for the same show.

WWE NXT Women's Title - Raquel Gonzalez (c) vs Merecedez Martinez

They flurried on each other early and MM cannonballed her off the apron. She then running knee'd her into the boards. We went to picture in picture break with RG throwing MM hard into the buckles. MM came back with hard forearms and corner stomps, then slapped her hard. RG then hit a right hook and dropped her before giving her a big slam for 2.

They traded forearms and chops and we came back to RG lariating MM for 2. MM hit some forearms and RG blocked a takedown initially but was then pounded on. MM hit a nasty looking neckbreaker as RG was bridged on the top rope. MM then speared her on the apron.

RG hit a weak alley oop onto the rope on MM. she then put MM on her shoulder and rammed her into the post. They botched something then RG lariated her and backbreakered her. MM evaded RG's single arm powerbomb then knee'd her and hit a fisherman's suplex for 2.

MM hit some v-triggers but took a face kick back. RG then single arm powerbombed her for the win. This had the usual mandatory sloppy spot but was actually a really good match with the two of them hitting each other hard. This was one of the more enjoyable women's matches I have seen in some time and I'm not even a fan of either of these girls.

Isaiah Swerve Scott and crew arrived and pushed a cameraman.

Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory were pushed out of a locker room and we see Bronson Reed down. Reed says Johnny is a dead man.

Swerve Scott comes out to talk. He says it's about to get real spooky here. His faction is called Hit Row. Swerve said his biggest mistake was trying to be something else that he wasn't. He said he recruited people who were just like him and introduced "Top Dolla". He did a rap and said "Who Hotter than Top Dolla?" and Hit Row said "Not Nada". Top Dollar is AJ Francis. The girl announced herself as B-Fab.

We went to an auction with Cameron Grimes bidding $2 million on a house. Someone keeps outbidding Grimes and Ted Dibiase outbids his $8 million with a $20 million dollar bid and wins it. Ted Dibiase then laughed and Grimes said he is ruining his life. Grimes challenged him and said "let's go". Ted said Grimes is "no Million Dollar Man" and Grimes freaked out.

Zoey Stark did a promo on Toni Storm. She said she is a global superstar and says Storm doesn't like her because she lives in the gym. She called herself a wrestling machine and they have a match announced for next week.

Oney Lorcan vs Kyle O'Reilly

We see Lorcan talking rash to Kyle outside earlier in the day. He talks about all the people Kyle lost to and said Kyle can't beat him eithe.r

They go to the mat to start and Oney back elbows him. Kyle puts him in an armbar in the ropes and then Kyle goes face to face with Pete Dunne. While he isn't looking, Oney nails him from behind.

We go to break and return with Oney in control. They trade hard forearms and Kyle running knees him into the gut. Kyle brainbusters him then does a diving knee off the top onto his back for the win.

Pete Dunne then attacks Kyle and Oney holds him down so Pete can beat him up more. Bobby Fish then makes his return and helps out Kyle. He stiffs both guys and kicks Pete out. Kyle and Fish talk. Kyle says he is doing his own thing and Fish says the same thing.

The match a little short with a lot of technical wrestling then the ending really did come out of nowhere.

We got an odd Avengers promo video for The Way.

Bronson Reed does a promo on Gargano. He says he gets Gargano in a cage match for the North American title next week.

WWE NXT Cruiserweight Title - 2/3 Falls - Kushida (c) vs Santos Escobar

Esobcar wore charro attire.

First Fall - Kushida gets thrown out early and has to fight off LdF. MSK then comes in out of nowhere and dives off the rails onto them to even the score. The ref kicks everyone out. Escobar goes outside to watch then Kushida dives on him off the top as we go to break. Back from break and we see Kushida getitng tosses into the barricades during the break. Escobar stands up top and drops Kushida gut first on the buckles.

Escobar puts him in a surfboard and keeps control after. Escobar hits some nice face punches. He tries to hurricanrana him from the top but Kushida rolls through it then handspring back elbows him. Kushida then does his hiptoss into a dropkick and takes a phantom driver for the first fall. Escobar is up 1-0.

Second Fall - Escobar gets caught immediately with a roll into an armbreaker and taps. The score is now 1-1.

Third Fall - We go into break here with Kushida working the arm. We return from break and they go outside. Kushida is pushed into the barricades. Escobar hits a nice tope on him. Back in and Kushida does a satellite on him and turns it into a driver of some sort. Kushida punches him and kicks him in the arm, then drops him on his arm on the outside. They trade pin attemps and double clothesline each other at the same time. They go up top and Kushida hits him with a spanish fly while in the hoverboard lock. Kushida single underhook suplexes him into the buckles then does it again with the arm hooked for the win.

The match picked up towards the end with Kushida doing a good job on the arm work but the first fall really wasn't that interesting.

Overall thoughts: It was a good show overall but it is the usual NXT - good but vanilla wrestling. The women's match was much better than I expected and I liked Kushida/Escobar more than I expected too.
